Mark Zampogna Obituary

Captain Mark Anthony Zampogna Captain Mark Anthony Zampogna went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2009, following a serious automobile accident in Boise, Idaho. Mark was born in Erie, Pa. on September 1, 1969. He was active in the Boy Scouts, marching band, and was captain of the swim team when he graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1987. He entered the Air Force as an Airman First Class in December 1989. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (Posthumously), Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and Air Force Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters. As dedicated as Mark was to his military duties, he was more dedicated to his family. He enjoyed martial arts classes with his children; and he loved outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, camping in the mountains, and riding his motorcycle. He was also very active in his church as Treasurer of the Parish Council, running the sound equipment during church services, teaching an adult Bible study, and helping to coordinate church fellowship activities. Mark is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughter Nicole, and son Dominic. He is also survived by his mother Beth Hardy and stepfather Francis Hardy of Erie, his father Joseph Zampogna and stepmother Valerie Zampogna of Harborcreek, his sister Melinda and husband Brian Haggerty of Buffalo, his sister Jennifer and husband Chris Bauer of Cleveland, his brother Chad Zampogna and wife Sandi of Lake City, his brother Jacob Zampogna of Harborcreek, his stepbrother Adam Denevic and wife Tara of Erie, his stepbrother Matthew Denevic of Harborcreek, his stepsister Maryl (Hardy) and husband Tim Curtis of Knox Pa., his stepsister Geana Hardy of Wattsburg, and his nieces and nephews Jacob, Kyle, Taylor, Rachel, Megan, and Jackson. A full military honors funeral was held at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho on Friday, July 17. All friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held on Sunday August 2, at 2:00 pm, at Keri’s Dance Studio, 7895 Buffalo Road, in Harborcreek. Mom just emailed me the news of Mark's death. I wish there was something magical to say to ease your pain. I cannot even imagine...I often think of the "neighborhood" and many fond memories of hanging out at the Zampogna's! Kick the Can is at the top of the list! Reading about Mark's accomplishments makes me proud, so i know how proud you must be. I am most happy that he was a dedicated family man and that he knew the Lord. I hope and pray you can find some comfort in knowing that he is now HOME. I am so very very sorry.
