Maureen Crosby Obituary
Maureen attended Priory Heath School in Ipswich. She met the love of her life and married USAF serviceman James R. Crosby on April 29, 1957, in Ipswich. In 1959, she moved to the Albion area with her husband and daughter.
Life was always an adventure and she embraced her new country becoming a U.S. citizen and serving on several civic committees. She was known for her outgoing, friendly nature and her optimism. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts, her family and her dog, Sunny. Maureen was very much involved in the community and served on many committees including an election judge for Elk Creek Township, Co-chairperson of the Produce Department for the Albion Area Fair, and also on the Elk Creek Planning Committee. She was a member of the VFW Post 740, Northwest Sportsman's Club and the Elk Creek Grange.
Maureen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James R. Crosby on March 12, 1982, an infant daughter, Roberta May Crosby and her brother, Keith Duff-Godfrey.
She is survived by her children; Julie (Jim) Papson, Dawn (Dan) Stearns, Linda Crosby and Robert (Stephanie) Crosby. She is further survived by her grandchildren; Jonathan (Kristen) Papson, Molly Papson, Morgan (Josh) Blood, Aimee Stearns, Logan Stearns, Sarah Dollinger-Crosby, James Crosby and great-grandchildren Animor and Evelyn Papson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Kathy Steiner. She will also be greatly missed by her longtime friend David Nagel.
Calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Tuesday from 1to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m., until the time of a funeral service there at 8 p.m., with Rev. Kristen Papson officiating. Private burial will be in Albion Cemetery. Memorials may be made in honor of Maureen to the Albion Area Fair, 10265 Crane Street, Cranesville, PA 16410.
