Edward M. Lubecki

Edward M. Lubecki, age 94, of Erie, died on Tuesday, July 08, 2014, at St. Mary's Home of Erie. He was born in Monessen, Pa. on September 29th, 1919, a son of the late Peter and Anna Pecko Lubecki.

Ed served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a Warrant Officer, serving in the Western Pacific & China with the 1st Marine Air Wing Night Fighter Division, during World War II. He was employed as a Brakeman and Conductor with Conrail. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, where he volunteered on various committees and was in charge of constructing the Rose Garden.

Independent-minded and devoutly Catholic, Ed Lubecki had three touchstones in his life: his wife and son, their home on Taylor Avenue in Harborcreek (built by Ed and the family in the mid-1950s), and hard work. Having survived a heart attack and a bout with cancer, Ed continued to lift weights in the basement and work outside in his beloved garden daily, sometimes against medical advice.

"Oh, just let him do what he wants," an exasperated doctor told family members when Ed turned 91. "Obviously, it's working."

Most of all, Ed loved his wife, Irene, and Greg, their son, and the light of Ed and Irene's lives. Their bond is unshakeable and eternal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene S. Skowronski Lubecki: his son, Gregory E. Lubecki; and three brothers, Ted, Walter and Ben Lubecki. Survivors include niece, Patricia Jerioski and nephew, Richard Boler, both of Erie; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th Street, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend services there Saturday at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
