Shakur Franklin Obituary
Shakur Omarr Franklin, age 16, of Erie, died Saturday, July 25, 2015, at UPMC Hamot.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., on March 4, 1999, son of Javon Omarr Franklin and Mary LaShonda Kirkland.
Shakur enjoyed playing basketball, loved to dance, and was a jokester.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Aileen Williams.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Denali Kirkland, five sisters: NaShonte Franklin, Zakhia Swift, Lila Hardaway, Joliyah Hardaway and Dominique Booker; maternal grandparents, J.C. Kirkland and Carrie Johnson; and paternal grandfather, Joe Franklin; two aunts: Camia Kirkland and Chawanda Kirkland; and three uncles: Leon Franklin, Roeshon Stapp, and Ronnie Swift. He is also survived by his best friend, Jamir Feliciano.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St., on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and are invited to services at Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26th Street, on Monday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Rev. A.B. Green eulogizing.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Mary, I know words can't describe how you are feeling. we were neighbor for some years and our kids played and laughed together. I feel as though he was not only taken from you but friends and a community that knew and loved him as well.I still can't believe it, it all feels like a bad dream that i'm trying to wake up from. If only we have the power to turn back the hands of time...I am hurting with you. just know God gained a young and handsome ANGEL. He shall never be forgotten in our hearts. To all family and friends please accept my sorrow and prayers at this time. I lost my daughter at 41. My Minister said it was her time and there was nothing that we could do to change this. I have held on to that thought because it's true. We have no control over when our time comes. I should say Jolee's death was from a fire, truly unexpected. GOD bless you all. You will always be in my prayers.

I am so so sorry for the lost of your child. I am a mother of 2 n I couldn't imagine losing one of mine. I know your heart is hurting but please understand that your son is one of God's angels now. No one can harm him n he is in no pain. There is no better place to be. This is one of God's test that he will put you through n with prayers n faith I know you will find a way to make it. Shakur will b there to help you pull ur way through. My son is 7 years old n his basketball was cancelled last saturday due to the incident and after explaining 2 him what happened n how u have 2 value ur life as well as others he said "mommy what could I do"? I said "baby pray for their families" n nonstop Shakur n Elijah have been in his prayers everynight. We all hope for the best for u n ur family. God Bless!
