Duane English Obituary
He was born in Erie, on January 30, 1949, son of the late Benjamin and Doris (Platz) English.
Duane graduated from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1966. He later received his Accounting Degree and worked as Assistant County Controller for Erie County for many years. He also worked with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission for 42 years as a Deputy Waterway Patrolman. Duane loved deer hunting and fishing and belonged to the Sons of the American Legion at Girard's Post#494, also the Elk Valley Sportsman Association, The PA Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
His family includes a sister, Darlene Rudd of Girard; a nephew, Gary L. Rudd (Michelle) of Curtice, Ohio; a great-niece, Holly N. Rudd; and a cousin, Debbie Somppi of Conneaut, Ohio.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard, and are invited to attend services there on Monday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Girard American Legion, 42 Wall St., Girard, PA 16417.

Duane was the man who took a chance on me and hired me at the Courthouse many years ago. He was a great man with a heart of gold. He will be dearly missed by many! My heart goes out to the whole family in this time of grief.

So sorry to read of Duane English's passing. I enjoyed working with him at the Controller's office for all of 15 years I served on County Council. He was a dedicated employee. Sincere sympathy to his family.
