Matilda Vargo Obituary

Matilda A. Vargo, 94, of Phillipsburg, passed away on June 7, 2014 at Brakeley Park Care Center. Born: in Alpha, NJ on March 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Stephen A. Erdo and Caroline Ehasz Erdo. Her husband, Frank L. Vargo, died in 2006. They were married in July 7, 1945. Personal: Matilda worked for many years for NY Transformer in Alpha. She loved her family, crocheting, reading, cooking and baking in the traditional Hungarian way. Memberships: She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Alpha and the Ladies Friendship Circle at the church, and the ladies auxiliary at John Dolak American Legion. Survivors: Surviving is her daughter, Irene E. Segletes and her husband Harry of Ottsville, PA.; sisters, Carolyn Angst of Warren Glen, NJ, Mary Berger of Milford, NJ; and brother, Lester Erdo of Alpha, NJ. Granddaughters are Jennifer Oswald and husband Jeffrey of Allentown, PA and Melissa Hoffman and husband Jonathan of Coopersburg, PA. Great-Grandchildren are Joshua, Aiden, Logan and Quinlen. Many Nieces and Nephews survive. Mrs. Vargo was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Joseph and Stephen Erdo. Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at The United Presbyterian Church in Alpha. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the service time on Saturday. The Finegan Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Church, 859 High St., Alpha, NJ 08865 or the charity of your choice.
