From college days in the mid-fifites to close service seating at the 10:30 service, he was such a devoted husband
and member of Christ Lutheran Church.
My heart is grateful to have known this
very special man.

I knew professor Dunkelberger during my four years at Gettysburg College (1959-1963). Although I did not have him as a teacher, he was a member of the religion department and advisor to my fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa. He is the reason I went into teaching. When I was contemplating seminary, he suggested I apply to Oxford University! I was shocked but intrigued. So I applied and went there for my two year MA program, then back to Gettysburg Seminary for my Lutheran year and on to Duke University for the PhD. I taught at Carthage College for 15 years and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago for 22 years. I would not have gone into teaching if it had not been for the Oxford experience that whet my appetite for scholarship. I am forever grateful to Dr. Dunkelberger for his advice and support. Blessings on all who grieve his loss.
