Ralph Hughes Obituary

CODORUS Ralph Hughes, 90, entered into God's eternal care Saturday, September 19, 2015, at PA, with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of Lucy I. (Garland) Hughes, with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage. Ralph was born in Bakersville, N.C., on June 5, 192,5 and was the son of the late Will and Emma J. (Davis) Hughes. Ralph retired from Cole Steel Office Equipment of York, where he worked for over 36 years. Mr. Hughes was a founding member of the Revived Free Will Baptist Church, Spring Grove, where he was very active and also served as a deacon. Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, the mountains, and gardening. In addition to his loving wife, Lucy, Ralph is survived by his children, Barbara Lee Ball and husband, Jerry of Hanover, Jimmy Hughes and wife, Betty of Spring Grove; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Estaleene Hollowfield of Marion, N.C. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alaska Hughes, Dave Hughes, Will Hughes, Jr., Howard Hughes, Luther Hughes, and Jeff Hughes. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Ralph will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Revived Free Will Baptist Church, Sportsman Club Road, Spring Grove, with the Rev. Brad Sizemore officiating. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson. Serving as casketbearers will be Tim Hughes, Jason Hughes, Gregory Ball, Jerry Ball, Jake Hughes, and Larry Jackson. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Jason Hughes, Jr., Sammy Hughes, Christopher Hughes, and Jimmy Trump. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ralph's memory to the Hospice Program of the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331. Mr. Ralph will truly be missed by my family. My kids told me that he reminds them of their late great grandfather so kind, caring, and strong willed, he made an impact on his neighbors from the very start. ♡ May your find peace and comfort ♡

So sad to hear about your loss. I grew up in Jefferson and have always enjoyed talking to Mr. and Mrs. Hughes. Ralph will surely be missed. Such a wonderful warm personality. Thoughts and payers are with you.
