Roy Bodkins Obituary

Roy Lee Bodkins, 83, went to be with the Lord, September 30, 2010 at 6:40 p.m.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday October 9, 2010 at Sooner Park Wesleyan Church, 6200 SE Baylor Dr. Pastor Greg McNall will be officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105 of Bartlesville. Funeral services and interment are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Stumpff Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sooner Park Wesleyan Church (Missions Fund) 6200 SE Baylor Dr., Bartlesville, OK 74006 or Carter Healthcare & Hospice, 3081 SE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.

Roy was born in Tulsa, OK, October 26, 1926. He grew up in Sapulpa where his parents Walter A and Callie E. Bodkins owned and operated Bodkins' Grocery Store. Growing up, Roy was in the Boy Scouts and later led a group of scouts to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. Before his high school graduation in 1945 he went into the military and served in the Army Air Force as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic. He served with the 39th Squadron in Tachikowa, Japan during the Occupation. He was discharged in December of 1946. He attended OSU. Then went to Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, TX in 1950. He received certificates of proficiency in horology, jewelry engraving, jewelry repair and stone setting. He worked at Continental Can in Coffeyville, KS doing sheet metal work. He was employed at Phillips Petroleum Company as a plastics technician in Research and Development from 1951 to 1985 when he retired.
On December 31, 1954 he married Louise Green and they made their home in Bartlesville. They had 2 daughters and a son.
Roy was a avid hunter and fisherman, a life member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed serving locally and on the state level. He enjoyed traveling to many national conventions and visited many different states.
He was a member of Sooner Park Wesleyan Church. He was also a life member of the American Legion. Roy was very patriotic, he was kind and a caring person who enjoyed helping others.
In August 2002, he married Patricia Smith. They moved to Wann in 2008 where he spent his last years.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife Louise Green Bodkins, his parents Walter A. and Callie E. Bodkins, sister Jane M. Webb, and son-in-law Chas Young.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Bodkins of Wann, OK, two daughters Linda Thornhill of Tulsa, OK and Nancy Young of Houston, TX, a son Carl Bodkins and wife Mary of Minnetonka, MN, seven grandchildren, and many more family members and friends.
