Jewel Renfrow Obituary
Jewel L. (Webster) Renfrow was born in 1918 to Otto and Bertha (Freeman) Webster in Peggs, Oklahoma. She courted Oscar in Pawhuska while he was working with the CCC work camp station at Osage Hills Park and married him in 1943 in Watertown, New York while he was on furlough from the 45th division Thunderbirds during World War II.
Jewel lived all of her life in Osage County and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pawhuska. She was always a God fearing woman, extremely hard working and could fix a delicious meal out of very few ingredients. At a very early age she became the cook, laundress, and house keeper for her parents due to her mother's Parkinson's disease. She also helped harvest the cotton and other crops when needed. She could best her brothers at picking cotton and still found time to play the mandolin in the evenings. Even though she only finished the eighth grade at the Pappin School, she managed the household bills in her married life.
The joys in her life were her husband, Oscar, of more than 60 years, children, grandchildren, and great grand children. Her motto was "what's life worth without children". When any of the children were coming to the home place for a visit, it was an occasion and everyone was invited. There would be eating, playing, laughing, and relishing the good life that God had provided. Summer times always meant cookouts and home made ice cream. After Oscar's retirement, there were numerous to trips to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains for exploring and fishing which was always a welcome relief from the hot and humid Oklahoma summers.
Jewel leaves a legacy of honesty, faithfulness and the value of hard work to her family. She is survived by daughters' Ruth Ann (Larry) Woodruff-Wichita, Ks, Rosemary (Don) Webb-Bartlesville, Ok, sons, Dean (Annie) Renfrow-Hulbert, Ok, Duane (Kathy) La Crosse, Ks, daughter-in-law, Rita Renfrow-Lawrence, Ks, and brother Raymond Webster- Tacoma, Wa. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and eight great grand children.
Her family would like to thank Dr. James Priest, the Pawhuska Nursing Home staff, Loving Hands Hospice, and her many Christian friends for their kind words of encouragement and love during the past several years.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 26, 11:00 AM, at the First Baptist Church of Pawhuska. Rev. Shawn Caldwell officiated. Interment was in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
