Daniel Berg Obituary

Pastor Daniel Robert Berg, 30, of Bartlesville went home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 12, 2015 after a courageous, year-long battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease.
Daniel was born to Brian Robert and Cynthia Ann Berg, in Evansville, Indiana, on Aug. 24, 1984. They lived in Ohio and Mississippi, before moving to Calhan, CO. At Calhan High School, Daniel was active in both music and football. After graduating in 2004, he attended Pikes Peak Community College, then New Life School of Worship. At a young age, Daniel received his calling from the Lord. After finishing school of worship he worked at Cal Farley Boys Ranch for about two years where his life impacted many. In 2013 he became the children's pastor at Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene, teaching and leading joyful kids praise.
Daniel fell head over heels with his wife-to-be Alivia Joy McNall at New Life School of worship and they were united in marriage on June 8, 2013. They celebrated their second anniversary last Monday. Daniel deeply loved Alivia and cherished the precious time they had together. But most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he knew that heaven was for real. This amazing love radiated from him and all who knew Daniel were touched by it.
While many saw his kind spirit and sweet smile, fewer knew he relished flag football and was known as "Ice Berg" in certain football circles. He was a diehard fan of Ohio State Univ. Buckeyes (2014 National Champs!). Daniel loved airplanes and studied WWII history. He adored his maternal grandfather Maj. James Kittinger who had been a pilot in the Air Force. Daniel will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Daniel is survived by his wife Alivia; his father Brian Berg of Bartlesville; his mother Cindy Berg of Tulsa; brother Rex Berg and sister Rebekah Berg, both of Tulsa; paternal grandparents Robert and Dorothy Berg and maternal grandmother Lee Ann Kittinger. Daniel also leaves behind his in-laws who have grown to love him dearly as a son and brother: parents-in-law Greg and Bonita McNall of Bartlesville, one brother-in-law Josh McNall and wife Brianna of Bartlesville, and two sisters-in-law Ayngel McNall of Tulsa and Cherah Johnson of Bartlesville. He also leaves behind five nieces, one nephew, and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Maj. James Kittinger and uncle Will Kittinger.
Daniel's family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Tuesday, June 16, from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Daniel has been set up, in care of Sooner Park Wesleyan Church, 6200 Baylor Drive, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
Funeral services will be held 2pm on Wed, June 17, 2015, at Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Greg McNall will be officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Daniel's family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.

I am so very sorry to hear of your family's loss. I too have seen the sad effects of ALS on a close friend, and my heart goes out to you all. I hope the loving memories that you shared together bring you some joy, as well as reflecting on the future promise of Isa 33:24 - the time when no one will say they are sick.

Livi,
I have watched you and Daniel fight this together, with family and God. I wish I could be there today to give you a hug and to cry with you both tears of sadness and celebration. Love you from a distance and will be praying for you today and in the weeks and months ahead.

We may never have perfect understanding, but we can trust our heavenly Father in the midst of our deep sorrow and heartache. May God bless the memorial of Daniel's faith and joy to all who knew him, and may we strive to live with such vibrancy.
