Lillian Reed Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 2 to May 1, 2014.
Lillian Inez (Lynch) Reed went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Parks Edge Nursing Home in Tulsa. She was 92 years old.
Lillian was born to James Arthur and Georgia Leona (Cooper) Lynch on July 26, 1921 near Eminence, MO. They moved to Dewey, OK when Lillian was about 9. She was the oldest of 4 children. Her siblings are Helen (Dick) Hess of Dewey, OK, Margaret (Paul) Turner of Dewey, OK and Allen Lynch of Byron, GA.
Lillian met Leo Earl Reed when he worked for the Kent Grocery in Dewey. They were married 12:00 noon on September 5, 1939 at the Baptist parsonage in Tuxedo. Both Lillian and Leo accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior at Highland Park Baptist Church. They were active in that church from 1944 until illness and death took Leo. Early on, Lillian led the music at the church even though she had no musical training. She taught 2nd grade Sunday School for many years, worked in Bible School, and sang in the church choir to name just a few of her activities. Leo was a deacon so she served also as a deacon's wife.
One daughter remembers Mom singing around the house as she worked. She sang hymns and songs that were popular in the day which she heard on the radio. Lillian cut and permed her own and her girls' hair and sewed most of their clothes. She sewed for 2 girls to go to college and for 2 weddings. She had a keen memory. Even in her last years when dementia tried to take over, her ability to spell came through.
After Leo's retirement from Phillips Petroleum, they enjoyed camping and fellowshipping with friends. They had a group of friends called the BARR Association (Browns, Antles, Reeds, Rays) who enjoyed each other's company and are now reunited in heaven.
Lillian is survived by three daughters: Joan (David) Ray of rural Nowata, Carol (Ron) Kelling of Austin, TX and Marsha (Harvey) Baker of Tulsa; five grandchildren: Jana Ray Edwards, Darren Ray, Shannon Kelling Decker, Natalie Vanderpool Annis, Nicholas Vanderpool; 12 great-grandchildren; Ashlee Edwards, Nate Edwards, Alex Ray, Abby Ray, Amelia Ray, Haley Decker, Kyle Decker, Jack Decker, Canon Decker, Chance Annis, Jackson Vanderpool and Bristol Grace Vanderpool. Also surviving are two sisters Helen Hess and Margaret Turner both of Dewey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 4, 2014 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ron Kelling officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
