Harold Edward Louis Brockhoff

1926 - 2010

The Reverend Harold Brockhoff went home to be with Jesus, his Savior, Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
The Rev. Harold Edward Louis Brockhoff was born on August 31, 1926, In Chicago, Illinois, to Mr. John Brockhoff and Mrs. Frieda (Wendt) Brockhoff. His father was not a minister. He has one younger brother, Daniel, who is a minister currently in Largo, Florida.
After eight years of parochial school education at Trinity Lutheran Church (now First Trinity), Chicago, IL, Pastor Brockhoff attended prep school at Concordia, Ft. Wayne, Indiana for six years (1940-August, 1945). While a student at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, he did fieldwork at Resurrection Mission, St. Louis, MO and at Koch Hospital and City Sanitarium, also in St. Louis, MO. He had summer fieldwork experience at St. John's, Whiting, IN and at Holy Cross, Wichita, KS. His vicarage was at St. Paul's, Hammond, IN. He received his B.A. degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo, in 1950.
Pastor Brockhoff married Dolores "Dodee" Ann Seehausen of Whiting, IN on July 15, 1950. They would have been married 60 years this July. They have five children: Deborah E Rainey, Kathleen M Brockhoff, John P Brockhoff, Rebecca L Harris and The Rev. David D Brockhoff; and five grandchildren: Jessica Rainey, Rachel Seaman, Bethany Brockhoff, Emily Brockhoff and Rachel Brockhoff.
Pastor Brockhoff was ordained at Trinity Lutheran, Ardmore, OK, on August 27, 1950. He pastored the congregation until 1953, when he became the missionary-at-large, beginning a new mission in Tulsa, OK. He accepted the call to serve as pastor of Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tulsa, OK, in 1954 where he remained until his retirement in 1994 after serving the same congregation 40 years. He was known as "Pastor B" by his beloved members.
Pastor Brockhoff served as Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod OK District circuit counselor (1957), District stewardship secretary (1965), second vice-president and District president (1970-1978). He worked as pastoral counselor to the District Lutheran Laymen's League, Zone LLL and Zone Walther League and served on many pro-tem committees, including as chairman of the District Stewardship and Evangelism Committees.
Pastor Brockhoff was active in Kiwanis for 56 years. He served on the Executive Board in Ardmore for two years and in Tulsa for six years. He was president of the Utica Square Kiwanis (1987-1988) where his annual project was to provide iodized salt to the under-privileged children in Africa.
The great theologian that he was entailed ten years of his ministry as Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, OK District Constitution chairman, reviewing the constitutions of Lutheran congregations throughout the State of Oklahoma.
His work for Jesus will be greatly missed. Besides flowering plants, memorials may be made in the honor of The Rev. Harold Brockhoff to The Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Bible Translators or Lutheran World Relief - LCMS.
Funeral services for The Rev. Brockhoff will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday Feb. 6, 2010 at the Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday Feb. 4 and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday Feb. 5.
