James Reynolds Obituary

James "Jim" Theodore Reynolds, 78, died Monday evening at the Bartlesville Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Odom officiating. The Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
James Theodore Reynolds was born on July 11, 1932 in Altus, Oklahoma with his twin brother John Clark. His parents were George and Ethel Reynolds. His family moved often with his parents who were organist and minister of music in the Baptist Church, but he graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree and did graduate work at West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas.
James and Marcia Gail Hoare were married in Amarillo in 1955 and they lived in Lubbock where he worked, while she attended, Texas Tech. In 1956, he began a 36 year career in the Treasury Department of Philips Petroleum Company and officially became "Jim" or "J.T.. The family would reside in Kansas City, Bedminster, New Jersey, Salt Lake City, Bartlesville, OK, Indianapolis and Houston, returning to Bartlesville in 1974, where he became Manager of Financial Services. Their son Brad was born in Kansas City, MO. And his daughters Gail and Laura in Summit, N.J..
During his working years, and continuing through his retirement, he was a tireless volunteer serving on many boards such as La Quinta Foundation, Choral Society Board, CONCERN Foundation and Hillcrest Board of Directors. He and Marcia were members of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church 35 years. He spent hours doing jobs ranging from teaching Sunday School and being Scoutmaster, to painting, planting and any church job that needed doing, including singing in the church choirs in 6 states. His "guilty pleasures" were golf, a good game of bridge and the Dallas Cowboys games, but, most of all, he loved the hours he spent sharing his children's activities everywhere the family lived.
His faith was deep, his patience to be envied, his ethics straight and his friendships unwavering. His commitment to family and his sense of humor and laugh are what most will fondly remember about him.
He is survived by his wife Marcia of the home, Brad (Margaret) of Ada, OK, Gail (Lloyd) Benedict of Tulsa, and Laura Bergstrom of Cordova, TN.. Six teenage grandchildren; Zachary Benedict of Norman, OK, Chase Benedict of Tulsa, OK, James Alan Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds and Samantha Reynolds of Ada, OK, and Amanda Bergstrom of Cordova, TN. and his sister Mary (John) Lovelace of Dallas, TX. Also by many loved nieces and nephews and "in-laws". James was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Richard, William, and James Clark Reynolds, his twin.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to CONCERN, 333 SE Penn, Bartlesville and St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN. www.stjude.org/donate.

Marcia, So sorry to hear of Jim's passing while I was in South Carolina. He was a fine and giving man. The community will miss him.

Although I didn't know Jim well, my father & mother spoke very fondly of Jim. The best story was when Jim would put his feet up on his desk during the reorganization at Phillips to ensure he'd work his way out of a job so he could retire. I may even use that someday soon. We're thinking of you and your family with deep affection and prayer.

I knew Mr. Reynolds when the family lived in Bartlesville on Brookline. I remember playing "Hide and Seek" with Brad, Gail and little Laura as well as all our parents. Gail was my "bestie" back then. I remember running in and out of the Reynolds house (we didn't lock the doors back then either). Mostly I remember in my 7 year old brain at the time, how much Mr. Reynolds looked the way I imagined God would look. Rest in peace Mr. Reynold. My prayers are with Mrs. Reynolds, Brad, Gail and Laura.
