I remember Emil as an esteemed colleague at the Phillips Research Center, where I
toiled for more than 32 years. And I've admired the films made by his son, Terrence.

Emil frequently called the newspaper to suggest story ideas, which we most always printed. Usually it was about someone he had come in contact with who had a particular talent or story. He often called about his son, Terrence, when there was news afoot, but he wanted his name kept out of it, making it hard to write a story without naming a source. He once invited me to stop by his home and see the prestigious Golden Bear award that Terrence had received and given to his dad. I did stop by and took a photo of the award to go with an article. I'll always remember him fondly as Emil, the frequent caller (He also regularly called the Off the Cuff hotline when it was in operation.)

Mr. Malick was my choir director at St. Lukes when I was a young girl. He was certainly a task master that demanded excellence, but also a dear, sweet man. He had a tremedous influence on my love of music. My best to the Malick family.
