Robert Malarkey Obituary

Malarkey, Robert W.
Robert W. Malarkey, 58, of Fairfield, CT, beloved husband of Patricia and loving father of Marissa and Rebecca passed away peacefully December 19, 2014, surrounded by love and the recorded music and singing of his cherished mother, Mary Born June 7, 1956 in Milford, Ct he was the son of the late John and Mary Malarkey. Bobs siblings John Malarkey from Evanston, IL, Elizabeth Malarkey Maroney (James)of Milford, and David (Kathy) Malarkey of North Carolina, his brothers-in-law James and Genio Chiappa of Trumbull and Milford along with special nieces, nephews and cousins and his Aunt Margie McNair all hold a special place in his heart. After graduating from Milford High School he went to the University of Bridgeport where he achieved a BS degree in Marketing. But it was in sales where he truly shined. Working for the AAA Motor Club early on where he learned the skills to eventually end up at his final position at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network where he was a financial Rep specializing in Long Term Care Insurance. Bobs incredible ability to listen--truly listen to his clients about what was important made him not only successful but loved and admired by all. He was the President of his National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors 2004 and received the Richard Wilsey Award 2005. When his health issues became too overwhelming this year, Bob reluctantly ended his voluntary 10 year position on the Pension Board of Fairfield; holding the office of Chairman for the past several years. His most recent award came the day he passed for he was given the Philip Pierz award--the highest given out by his Agency. This award reflects "Do you have any idea of the impact of what you say and do have on those around you". For many years, Bob was either head or assistant Soccer Coach for his two daughters teams as they grew up. Even then, he knew the impact of "what you say and do" around those kids. His gifts of guidance and acceptance at any level of play was what endeared him to not only the children but their parents as well. We would like to think Bob is catching a good baseball or hockey game right about now. Or maybe sitting front and center to a jam session done by George or John. What is evident to all who knew him is his overwhelming love of family. But Bob made everyone he met feel special. That's his legacy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 23, 2014 at 11 am at St. Gabriel's Church. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Friends and family may call from 4-8pm on Monday, December 22nd at Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad St. Milford, CT 06460. Bob had special charities that were dear to his heart. Contributions can be made to: Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill CT 06067 or Parkinsons Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018. Dear Patty and Family,
I am shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I worked with both you, Patty, and Bob in Kresge's back in the 1970's and then Bob and my paths crossed again in the insurance world in the 1990's. He was a lovely man with a kind heart and gentle soul. May God bless him and your family.

Patricia, Marissa and Rebecca;
I never met Bob. Not even once. But he became my first Insurance Agent thru a referral in 1989 and I kept in touch once a year and we had love of hockey in common. And so I send my condolences and will now hope his beloved Rangers have a great season for Bob.

December 23, 2014

Rest in peace Bob.

We were blessed to be neighbors of Bob's mother Mary and met Bob and the Malarkey family through her. Bob was 'salt of the earth', just like his mom. What a loss for all who knew and loved him, especially his dear daughters and wife. You are all in our prayers as we ask for God's comfort and peace for you during the difficult days and years ahead. We still miss Mary and know that a great reunion happened when Bob joined her.

Dear Patty, Marissa & Rebecca,
I am heartbroken to learn of Bob's passing. Bob rented a house from us on Rowland Rd. back in the 1980's. We were kids in our 20's. He is one of the very few tenants who stand out & whom I have fond memories of. He was a gentleman & a gentle soul & one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was more than a tenant, he was "family". Bob always had a smile & positive attitude. A bright light to all who knew him. The world has truly lost one of the good guys. My thoughts & prayers are with you and Bob's siblings & their families. May God comfort & bless you during this difficult time. I will forever have fond memories of Bob as he will forever be part of our family too. God Bless you Bob, RIP.

At a very young age I was afforded the opportunity to become introduced to Bob Malarkey. He was a summer camp counselor at the school where his Father was my Principal. Bob had coached, instructed, and guided us in Sports, Arts and crafts and other activities during the summer months. He was very instrumental in keeping many area youths, including myself busy,and thus out of trouble. I will forever remember Bob, as I had a brief chat via FB several months ago. He said he still had photos of us kids from the mid 1970's, which he wanted to share with me. I had no idea Bob was Ill at that time. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of his passing. I wish to extend my deepest and sincerest condolences to his Family & Friends. RIP Bob Malarkey. Please say hello to your Dad for me in Heaven.
