George Waldschmidt Obituary

George L. Waldschmidt, 92, of Campbellsport, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1919, in the Town of Taycheedah, the son of Landre and Elizabeth (nee Pickart) Waldschmidt.

On June 22, 1944, George married Mary M. Dreikosen at Holy Angels Church in West Bend.

George took great pride and enjoyment in farming in the Town of Eden for over 65 years. He was a good steward of the land, growing crops for his dairy herd and raising many heifers and calves. He mentored his sons to the love of farming and expanded his herd and land for production. His faith and devotion to his family and farming were his life.

He ushered at St. Matthew's and was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.

His joy was spending time with his grand and great-grand kids, actively playing with them; four wheeling, snowmobiling, campfires and fireworks. He taught his children and grandkids to play the German card game, sheepshead and great times were had playing the game with family and friends.

His hobbies included gardening, making homemade cider and wine, mopeding, laying in the hammock and listening to a good polka on the accordion. He will also be remembered for his keen and witty sense of humor, generosity, motivated work ethic and the love of a good story. George was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be greatly missed.

SURVIVORS: Survivors include his sons, Gene (special friend, Judy Lohse) and Paul (Karen), all of Campbellsport; his daughter, Joan (John) Klapperich of Wasilla, Alaska; his grandchildren, Jeanne and Allan (Stephanie) Waldschmidt and Kristina, Kaitlyn and Mary Klapperich; his great-grandsons, Jordan, Nathan and Connor Waldschmidt; his brother, William (Lorraine); many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary on Feb. 22, 2003; his son, Allen his brothers, Elmer (Agnes), Henry (Ruth), Clarence (Alexia), Edgar (Evelyn) and Clemens (Janice); his sisters, Esther (Ambrose) Krebsbach and Marie (Harvey) Martin; his brother-in-law, Peter Dreikosen; and his sisters-in-law, Leona (Harvey) Jochman and Irene (Norman) Hammer.

VISITATION: Visitation will be Monday Jan. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St. Campbellsport, and again on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Campbellsport.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Campbellsport. Rev. Neil Zinthefer will serve as celebrant and burial will follow at the parish cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to Gene, Paul and Joanie. Growing up we often skated on your pond, connecting our neighboring farms. I have fond memories of your Dad and Mom, always taking the time to share a friendly hello and a few kind words. May each of you and your families feel God's peace and presence as you say your earthly farewells.

Uncle George, there are so many memories of your life here with us. I wrote to you a while ago to let you know and thank you for always being there to help us. You'd think with my getting older and things that happened as a kid might not be remembered. That has not happened. You and Aunt Mary make up the favorite images of my childhood. Thank you for your selflessness. Rest in peace.
God Bless All

I will always have fond memories of George. He was always a great guy to share a few words and thoughts. They are getting a pleasent, respectable person and farmer in heaven.
