Joe and I were classmates in High School. I haven't seen him too many times since then, but I remember him well. He was a nice kid. We were roommates on the Senior Class trip to Washington DC. I remember one night we had a free night in our nations capital, but we had a 9 PM curfew. We could leave the hotel and do what we want, but by golly we better be back in our rooms by 9. Brother Roger came in to every room to make sure that everyone was there. And if we weren't, we were in big trouble. I was by myself at 8:30 PM trying to make my way back to the hotel when I spotted Joe trying to do the same thing. You see, both of us got lost. We went down the street that we thought would get us back to the hotel, but it was the wrong way. We followed that by several more wrong ways. It's now 8:45 and we don't know where we are. Joe said "we gotta run". Problem is, Joe could run like the wind and I couldn't. I kept yelling "Joe, wait up!." He kept yelling "Hurry up, will ya!" We still didn't know which way to go, but somehow, the hotel appeared in the distance. I yelled "Joe, there it is!" He turned, and sprinted for the hotel and I tried to keep up. We made it back to our room around 9:15, but fortunately Brother Roger hadn't made it to our room yet. When he came in, we acted like obedient Catholic School boys. My best wishes go to Joe's family. He was a great guy, one that I've always remembered well. God Bless his soul.

I've known Joe since I became a referee in college and have had the pleasure of having him as one of my assigners in CMYBL for the last several years. He was always a delight to deal with and even while ill, his love of TAP basketball was evident in that he was assigning officials just a couple of weeks ago. My sincere condolences to your family. --- Josh Hammer, CMYBL

Joe was a very special person and I was honored to have had the opportunity to know him, watch him as a coach, laugh with him, and work with him. Bev, Joel and Neil there are no words to express how truly sorry I am for your loss. You were all fortunate and blessed to have had him as a husband and father, they don't come any better than Joe. May God give you all strength and blessings. My heart and prayers are with you all.

Bev, Joel and Neil,
I have so many fond memories of Joe. Playing in your backyard, getting a drink inside the house and then being chased back out lol, him yelling at us "turkeys" across the street.... He was always smiling and making jokes. He had one of the best senses of humor, one I think Neil carries on today. You are all in my thoughts and I'm so sorry for this big loss.
Love
