and Concord

FITCHBURG - Martha "Marty" L. (Riel) Ring, 81, of Fitchburg, formerly of Acton and Concord, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster.

Marty was born in Turners Falls, MA, on June 29, 1936, daughter of the late Henry F. and Louise A. (Yarmac) Riel. She graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1954 and attended Bates College in Lewiston, ME. At Bates College she met and later married her husband, James "Jim" F. Ring. They were married for 51 years until his passing in 2010.

She was predeceased by her brother, David H. Riel.

Marty is survived by two sons, Michael J. Ring and his wife Joan of Largo, FL; Dennis P. Ring and his wife Brenda of Mashpee, MA; a daughter, Mary L. Ring of Suwanee, GA; three grandchildren, Bryan P. Ring and his wife Anna of Suffield, CT; Jami M. Ring of Atlanta, GA; Kevin M. Ring United States Coast Guard, Cape May, NJ; a sister, Carolyn A. (Riel) Organ of Greenfield, MA and her friend and companion Harold "Bud" Williams of Fitchburg.

RING - A funeral service will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, MA. on Thursday, March 22 at 1:00pm. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 12- 1pm. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg. Marty was a lifelong avid reader, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fitchburg Public Library or a public library of your choice.
