FITCHBURG -- Ernest J. Cormier, 82, of Fitchburg, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at the Edith Nourse Rodgers Memorial Hospital, Bedford.

Mr. Cormier was born in Fitchburg, November 2, 1930, a son of Hypolite and Delima (Berube) Cormier and was a lifelong resident of Fitchburg.

For nearly 40 years, Mr. Cormier worked as a reservoir policeman for the city of Fitchburg, retiring in 1990. After his retirement from the City of Fitchburg, he worked five years as a maintenance person at St. Joseph School in Fitchburg.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 429 in Fitchburg, Disabled American Veterans and had been active in the Fitchburg Boy Scout Program as an Eagle Scout leader. He was an avid gardener and was especially fond of growing tomatoes.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Constance M. (Theil) Cormier, two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah M. and Duel Taylor of Almo, KY, Donna M. and Chris Ennis of Angier, NC; a brother, Norman Cormier of Fitchburg; a sister, Pauline Holstrom of Leominster; six grandchildren, Avery DeCarolis, Duel Taylor, Rebel Taylor, Louis DeCarolis, Hunter Ennis and Kaitlin Ennis.

CORMIER -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg.

Burial will be private.
