JAMES EDWARD POTTERFIELD

James Edward Potterfield PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC - James Edward Potterfield went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Leesburg, VA on December 15, 1936 to Edward and Zella Potterfield. He graduated from Grady High School in Atlanta, GA and received his BA in Education from West Georgia College, MA in Early Childhood Elementary Education at the University of GA and his Doctorate in Education at the University of MD. He started the Education dept at the birth of Francis Marion College in 1970. He was the head of the Education dept, retiring in 2003. Jim was a skilled craftsman in the art of military miniatures and was a long time member of the South Carolina Military Miniature Association. A member of St Luke Lutheran Church in Florence, Jim was active in the church as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church council. Jim is survived by his wife, Anne; sons James Edward Jr (Beckie) Potter-field, John (Ashlin) Potter-field, Jay (Marcy) Potter-field, Jeremy Potterfield; daughter Jennifer (John) Newton; grandchildren, John Clarke, James Edward III, Jacob, Jackson, Alyx, Jaycob, Jordyn, Linsy, Jadyn, Macon, Tyler and Lydia; nieces, Cathleen (Joe) Williams, and Melanie (Fred) Wright; great nieces Tiffany (Justin) Magid, Stephanie (Tyler) Callahan; great great niece Ella. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 11:00am at St. Luke Lutheran Church. The family will host a reception following the service.
