Mary Ruth Slice Haile

CHAPIN — Mary Ruth Slice Haile, 66, beloved wife of Bobby Haile of 283 Mary Drive, Chapin, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Chapin, Aug. 9, 1941, she was a daughter of the late George Bailey and Louise Summers Slice. She graduated from Chapin High School and spent her life committed to family, friends, neighbors and the entire Chapin community.

A loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend; she was married to the love of her life, Bobby, for the past 47 years. She was completely devoted to Bobby and their children, Robby and Donna, their grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Joshua, Cole, Shawn and Brittany.

Her happiest times were with her family and countless friends, whom she considered her greatest blessing. She was loved for her kind heart, nurturing soul, generous spirit and warm smile. She embraced life and faced everything, including cancer, with faith, grace and incredible strength. She touched many lives and her legacy will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was an employee of Ellet Brothers of Chapin for 14 years, where many of her customers, from all over the United States, became life long friends. She has been a Farm Bureau insurance agent for the past 27 years, receiving numerous awards and citations for her excellence. She was a well-respected and integral part of the Chapin business community for more than three decades.

A charter member of Chapin Baptist Church, she loved her church family and the clergy with whom she shared a special relationship. She remained active during her illness and received comfort from the Legands group and her Sunday school class.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby of the home; daughter, Donna Haile Keller of Chapin; son, Robby Haile and his wife, Dayne, of Chapin; grandchildren, Justin, Austin and Joshua Keller, Shawn and Cole Haile and Brittany Barr, all of Chapin; one sister, Margaret Epting and Joe of Chapin; five brothers, Jimmy Slice and Mary Jo of Anderson, the Rev. Paul Slice of Anderson, Heyward Slice and Louetta of Chapin, G. B. Slice and Patsy of Florence; Stanley Slice and Lucy of Chapin; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Whisnant-Yellin of Greenville and Linda Sue Fauhl of Helena, Mont.; 20 nieces and nephews who honored her and remained near to her heart.

Special thanks to the entire Chapin community for the compassionate support and love you have given this precious lady and her family through her long illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at Chapin Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Kelly and the Rev. Phillip Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to In As Much Ministry, 950 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC 29036 or an organization of your choice.
