Michael David Frate VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - Michael David Frate, 49, of Virginia Beach, Virginia died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at his home. David was born January 8, 1962 in Marion, VA. He grew up in Salisbury, North Carolina and Florence, South Carolina, and attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Following 10 years serving his country in the United States Navy, David graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia with a Bachelors of English degree. Until his death, David worked for GEICO Insurance Company in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. David was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn, of Florence. He is survived by his father, Richard, of Florence; three sisters, Lisa Burkett (Raymond) and Karen Snider (Frank) of Florence, and Mary Kelley (Doyle) of Savannah, Georgia; and two brothers, Steven (Cindy) of Clifton, Virginia and Doug (Anne) of Columbia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. David also leaves behind his "Second Family" at GEICO who were so very supportive and through which he developed many close friendships. Because of David's love of children, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to McLeod Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502-0551.
