PAMPLICO — Leo Red Hicks, 72, of Pamplico departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at home with his family by his side. He passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. He now joins his heavenly Father.

Red as he was called, was a devoted Christian and family man. He was born Jan. 3, 1936, to the late Thad Hicks and Marie Reddick Hicks in the Friendfield community of Florence County. Mr. Hicks was a member of Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church for 38 years, having served as deacon for 33 years. He was faithful to his church and his greatest desire was to see the new church built. In 1973 he founded Hicks Used Cars Inc. He served one term as councilman for the Town of Pamplico, was a member of American Legion Post No. 98, the Disabled American Veterans and had served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Leo Hicks Jr. and Ricky Glenn Hicks, and by a brother, John Henry Hicks.

A loving and caring husband and father, he is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Poston Hicks of the home; a loving daughter, Vicki (James) Goins of Pamplico; grandchildren, Jay (Lori) Goins of Pamplico and Brian Goins of Columbia; he was looking forward to the birth of a great-grandson, Benjamin Tillman Goins; sisters, Dorothy (Leo) Smith of Pamplico, Dottie L. Barber of Charleston, Joyce Hicks and Doris (Vince) Ronk of Florence; brothers, David Hicks and Jimmy (Joanna) Hicks of Florence and Harry Lee (Harriett) Hicks of Lake Norman, N.C.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Andy, Carla and Hunter Ard and James Boy Edwards Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O. Box 66, Pamplico, SC 29583.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, in Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Our fondest memories are of Mr Red sitting behind us at church and hearing his fervent prayers. James 5:16 says the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much and we see so many effects of those prayers! God bless the entire family at this time.
