Randy Sanders Obituary

Randy 'Raisin' Sanders

Indialantic, FL

Randy 'Raisin' Sanders, 44, of Indialantic, FL, died Sunday, September 28, 2014. Randy was the owner/operator of Fish On Bass Fishing Excursions and there was no better guide. He created wonderful memories for all of his customers. Randy was an avid and very competitive surfer. He competed in ASF, ESA and NSSA and won many championships, too many to mention. He was such an inspiration to fellow surfers, especially the younger set on the Spectrum Surf Team. He was one of the top amateur pool players in the state. He excelled in everything he ever attempted.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sanders; son, his pride and joy, Logan Sean Sanders, mother and stepfather, Gretchen Rose and Ron Gray; brother, Rick Sanders (Jennifer Kelly); stepbrother, Bill (Janine) Gray; stepsisters, Gretchen (Chris) Brown and Melissa (Ralph) Hockenberry; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Richard Sanders.

Visitation Saturday, October 11th, 1 - 2 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home Chapel, Melbourne. Memorial donations may be made to Central Brevard Humane Society, 1020 Cox Rd., Cocoa, FL 32926. www.brownliemaxwell.com

Coming up on another year of Randy going into the Heavens! I knew Randy for several months. We worked together ( surf camp). What a privilege to spend time talking with Randy and watching the care he gave to the young surfers. Indeed a very special man. Never forgotten. Randy left a mark of his goodness on me!

I wish I could have spoken today to tell you how much Randy meant to me but couldn't . How I met Randy if you were in the same building as he was you knew him. For the last year we became very close. I know he was on page 36 of Kelly Slaters book and so much more.....I wanted to take walks on beach he told me hated sand even though he was a surfer. Mine and Randy's friend Natalia believes that after someone dies their soul stays here for 40 days then they transfer above she would like to have a bonfire on the beach to celebrate this event....

Eulogy for Randy by Matt Patton

Randy “Raisin” Sanders was my best friend and I consider him to be my brother. Words want to walk away down to the edge of the surf, when speaking of the transcending of Randy Sanders. Through the sea breezes blowing through the cleansing of the sea oats and the palms, that scent of salt and water, barefoot and free is where words will find him. Cleansed, and free. The rest of us must wait in astonished wonder of the passing of this fine man.

Randy arrived on this beautiful and harsh planet in the year of 1969. A water child, born of the waters. He found his way to the motion of the ocean as quickly as he could. There he found solace, there he found uproarious joy. There he found balance. And there he found his all-encompassing grin. Randy was a grinner. His grin was so broad and engaging he could pull your lips up into a smile even when you were burnt to a crisp and your face was, what you thought, cast in a permanent frown. Randy laughed, and laughed truly from the belly up. Randy found life and grabbed it and made so much of it, more than most of us ever will, as we stand waiting on the same shores. Waiting on that perfect curl in reach, worth the waiting.

Along the way he loved. His life and love touched many far beyond count. Many of my life's greatest moments were spent with this man.

Randy was a deliberate soul who took a hold of what there is here, and made a deliberate choice. He knew both paths, and knew them deeply, and very well...the pleasure and the pain. He now has what he wanted and we would wish him that.

There should be no pall cast over his life or shame in his leaving. He walked so many roads in life, and captured marvelous pleasures. The green sheen on the side of a big mouth bass, the shimmering of clear green water just as it rises above you and lifts. His fingers could touch a wave or a reel as though it were a piano, playing it, key by key. His delicate fingers knew water far more than many and could make a symphony of the carve into the lip, or that perfect cast placed perfectly and just when.

He finally positioned himself where the wave rose just so and crested just right and he paddled into the palm of God. Grinning. Made whole. Shredding and ripping peacefully.

Turn up your car speakers on the way home today and let the bass kick. He would have wanted that. Love and miss this man. Do not grieve him.

Gretchen, Such a tragic time for you and your family. If you were as good as a Mother as you were a friend, he was one lucky young man. God Bless you during this time and try to find piece. All I've read about Randy is he sounds a little like my young son who has lived his life doing his own thing. Love, Linda
