Albert Ballenger Obituary

Albert Swain Ballenger

Cocoa

Our beloved father and friend Albert S. Ballenger, 72, passed away on October 19, 2015 in Cocoa, Fl after a long struggle with his health.  His very big heart finally gave out.  Al was born September 3, 1943 to Albert and Ruth Ballenger.  Growing up, he loved the beach, basketball and flying airplanes.  He later attended college  in Miami where he played collegiate basketball.  After graduation, he became an air traffic controller in Atlanta and then a pilot for TWA.  Subsequent to his aviation career, he became the owner of a number of convenient store/ gas stations where he earned the nick name "Amoco Al."  He was well regarded and loved by his employees.  He married Mary Ann Woods and had two children, Brooke and Cory and two grandchildren, Kayla and Garrett.  His passing was preceded by his former wife Mary Ann Greene and younger brother, Timothy Ballenger.  He is survived by his sister Angela Marlo and her children, Tom Dallmann and Dee Marlo. Also, by Tom and his wife Delmy's twin daughters, Ally and Alex. Al was looked up to in more ways than one (6'5"). Albert Swain Ballenger was an innovative and successful businessman with a great sense of humor. He was widely loved by his friends and family and will be sorely missed. At his request, there will be a small private family celebration of his life.

What a sad moment of my life. What a wonderful and compassionate friend I lost for ever! Even though it has been many years since I last saw him, I always remembered him as being the one who shaped my life and my career. I never forget his
gentle and kindly demeanor. My prayers to his kids and grand kids. Al is now in
a better place.

Albert

One day the rain fell
but no one asked where the
rain came from
One day all the bells rang
and someone cried.
Oh my God
Oh my G-o-d
That was a song I could have sang

Then one day the sun set
and someone pulled the curtains
and whispered.
His race is run
It's over
It's done
Oh I can't tell you where tears
come from
but I do believe God created
a son
the good, the bad the ugly
all from the same hand
the same one..

Good night Prince Albert

Al was always a fun person to socialize with. I had a chance meeting with him at Trader Ing's on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. We socialized for about a week and had a great time. He will be missed. Don Gay

I met Al when I moved to Cocoa in high school where we played basketball together. After graduation, it was 50 year before we reconnected at our high school reunion and had a chance to catch up on our lives in between. Al was a good friend in high school and I have fond memories of our time together. He touched a lot of people along the way. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss of a big man with a big heart.

So sorry to read of Al's passing. We lived not far from each other, and our daughters were school mates and friends also. We have not seen each other since Al moved from Jonesboro area, but he will be remembered as a great guy, and a good person.

Al was one of my very good friends for almost a lifetime....sixty years. We met in the seventh grade and played basketball together through high school. He talked me into becoming a pilot...which I did and ended up having a 35 year career as an airline pilot with TWA. I owe him for a lot of things but mostly for steadfastly being such a good friend. He was a good person and I will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace.
