Brent Mayes Obituary

BRENT STEPHEN MAYES HAWTHORNE Brent Stephen Mayes, 57, passed away at home suddenly, Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Hawthorne, Florida. Brent was born May 25, 1951 in Bend, Oregon, and moved to Cocoa Beach from North Carolina with the Mayes family in 1965. He graduated from Cocoa Beach High School in 1969 and was educated at the University of Florida and Brevard Community College. Brent loved Gods outdoors, horses, hunting, fishing and gardening. He had a perfect mental picture of the 1000 Islands and Cocoa Beach canals. Known at the "Reel Man", he was employed as an anglers expert in fishing equipment at the Tackle Box in Gainesville. Prior, he worked at Custom Rod and Gun in Pompano Beach and moved to Hawthorne, Florida in 1999. Brent loved people and had many friends who loved his sense of humor. He was always available to help others and work at his church. His acreage adjoins that of Lochloosa Meth odist Church in Hawthorne, a rural church built in 1882. Brent transferred his membership there from Cocoa Beach ten years ago. He loved the church where his beautiful service was held jointly with the regular serv ice on Sunday, October 20th. His immediate family in attendance were his wife of 31 years, Debbie; his son, 18, Brent Jr.; his parents, Melvin and Evelyn; his brother, Wayne (Barbara) of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and his sister, Marcia (David) Munce of Frisco, Texas. Also attending were the employees of the Tackle Box of Gainesville, his work family. Memorials may be sent to Lochloosa Methodist Church, 16503 S.E. 210th Terrace, Haw thorne, Florida 32640.
