Virginia Bird, 96, of St. Albans, WV and Indian Harbour Beach, FL went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2010 after a short illness. She was born October 10, 1914 in Putnam County, WV, to the late Grover and Maude Thompson. "Gin", known to her grandchildren as, "Nanny", was one of 12 children.
She retired from Embee's Department Store in Charleston, WV. She formerly taught Sunday School and was one of the eldest members at First Baptist Church in St. Albans, WV. She volunteered for Senior Services and some of her volunteer work was performed at the Hansford Center in St. Albans, where she was a charter member. She was also active in the senior citizen's program in Florida, where she loved to walk on the beach and pick up seashells to create artwork.
Gin is survived by her daughter, Mary Duffield of St. Albans; son, Michael Bird of Texas; sisters, Pat Lewis of Hurricane, WV, Jean Reedy of St. Albans, WV, Janet Williams of Christiansburg, VA; and brother, Don Thompson of Asheville, NC. She has 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Bird.

I would like to express my sincere sympathies for the Bird family. Hopefully the scripture at Psalm 46:1 will be of comfort to you in your time of distress. It says :"God is for us a refuge and strength, A help that is readily to be found during distresses."
