Barbara Gibbon Obituary

PENN YAN– Barbara Lu Gibbon, age 77, of Penn Yan, N.Y. passed away peacefully with her kids by her side on Monday (May 1, 2017) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Friends and family may gather to share memories of Barbara from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday (May 8, 2017) at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527, where a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (May 9, 2017) in Glenview Cemetery in Pulteney, N.Y.
Barbara was born on February 18, 1940, the daughter of the late George and Freeda (Zimmer) Mack. She had attended nursing school at Geneva General Hospital earning her LPN. She had worked as a nurse for many years at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Barbara enjoyed golfing and playing bridge at the Lakeside Country Club. She was also a member of the Penn Yan Moose Club and the Women's Club. Barbara had also volunteered at the Once Again Shop in Penn Yan.
Barbara is survived by her children Michael (Kerry Bowman) Lamphier, Beth (Harlow Brokaw) Payne, and John W. (Sherry) Gibbon II; grandchildren Colin Lamphier, Adell Brasch, Zachary Parsons, Sean Gibbon, Jeanie Goosman, Kim Verstringhe, and Michelle Fabiani; four great-grandchildren; sister, Bette Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John W. Gibbon; and daughter, Sally Gibbon.
