With heartfelt sympathy, I send condolences. Dr. Martone had an indomitable spirit and embraced life and everyone she encountered. Though I graduated from South Side, I heard about Dr. Martone's prowess. It seemed like only yesterday we were discussing writing; now she has transitioned.

Peace and blessings unto you,

Such a great lady! An inspiration to us all on how to live life and care for others. I remember her great sense of fun and not taking life too seriously...wearing those cool red high top sneakers to a FWCS Board meeting not too long ago! I will always remember her love of education, of children, and her strong sense of family and community. Her legacy will continue forever in all the minds and hearts of those whose lives she so intimately touched. I wish all of you peace at this difficult time; may you be comforted by all the caring and kindness of those who knew and loved her. May your memories of her sustain you always.

I just said to my son and great nephew that I was preparing to go to the funeral of one of the most famous and beloved teachers that Fort Wayne has ever known. It was always a big deal any year we could get Patty Martone to attend or speak at one of our Class Reunions of Central High. To read her columns in the newspaper, to hear on TV about her many involvements in the community showed she continued to touch the lives of others in everything she did. The educational commumnity and all of Fort Wayne will miss a truly Great Lady. Cindy (Yarman) Jewel, CHS Class of 1965.

I am a 1960 Fort Wayne Central High School Alumni and Mrs. Martone was one of my favorite educators. Certain people change our lives one small kindness at a time…a dream nurtured, a confidence kept, a joy celebrated, a heartache shared. Each caring gesture, each act of understanding brings warm compassion to the world and reveals the richness of the human spirit. She was always there to brighten up your day; one who showed concern and interest with her thoughtful and caring ways. She always added a touch of fun to the things she would have to say to you. She was like my hero, my mentor and my role model, because I at that time wanted to be a teacher. She remembered me when my husband, Willie Curry, passed away in 1969, and even wrote me a letter apologizing for not being able to call at the funeral home to offer her condolences because she was down with the flu. I would at times meet her in the office of the doctor we both shared and leave the office with a smile on my face for having had the conversation.

I last had the pleasure of talking and taking pictures of her at the 8th Annual Central High School Alumni Association Meeting on October 22, 2011. I am so thankful for that.

Patty as she preferred to be called will always be remembered as a woman I respected and admired, as a woman who loved and adored her family and as a woman who meant so very much to everyone who was fortunate enough to have the blessing of her special touch in their lives.

I send my deepest sympathy to the family and join with you in celebrating the life of a loving and good human being. Rather than mourn the absence of the flame, let us celebrate how brightly it burned.

What a teacher, a very precious and special human being. I was her student in English at Central High School in 1956 and she at the time was expecting her first baby. She was substituting for Helen Lee who was away on sick leave. I was sad when her assignment ended. She wrote some of the best editorials ever. My thoughts and prayers are toward her family.
