THOMAS J. ECKRICH, 72, of Clear Lake, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 10, 1937, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Herman and Pauline Eckrich. He attended Central Catholic High School and then the University of Notre Dame. He was involved in many organizations including the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, Clear Lake Yacht Club (past Commodore), Notre Dame Club, Big Brothers, Indiana Apartment Association, St. Paul's Catholic Church, in Clear Lake, Franciscan Missions, Fort Wayne Business Forum, and Young Presidents Organization. In 1957, he married his grade school sweetheart, Sally Schenkel, who was his greatest supporter and best friend. They had five children, Tom Jr. (Katie), Ann (David) Arnold, and Chris (Carol Ann) of Fort Wayne, Bill (Kathleen) of Indianapolis, and Tony (Lora) of Grosse Pointe, Mich. Dear Sally and Family:

We just learned about Tom's passing tonight in Today's Catholic. We are so sorry to hear about your loss and will pray for him and you. He was such a God-send to us when we moved to Fort Wayne 10 years ago. Without him, our move would not have been possible. His great generosity in providing a home for us enabled us to move to Fort Wayne. He introduced as to Fr. Koers (may he rest in peace) and Saint Patrick's-Arcola, both very important in our lives. We loved his zest for life, and I (Tom) was happy that the last time I saw him was at a very lively event when Fr. Larry Richards spoke at a Men's conference two months ago to help us be better men. Tom was trying to be that better man until the end.

Love,

Tom and Sally McGovern

HI Sally, Cheryl and I are very saddened to hear about the loss of Tom. He was truly a great man and he was always ready to help anyone on and around the lake. Cheryl and I remember the first time we met you and Tom, our boys were chocking each other and we thought what a bad first impression, but I guess with all of the boys you and Tom have been around you were probably used to that kind of rough house. Anyway we will really miss Tom, watching him work around the lake and going back and forth on his golf cart.

The Redman Family

April 11, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Eckrich Family,
Carol and I just learned of the passing of Tom. We are so sorry and want to offer our condolences to you, Sally, and your kids and grandkids.

We know Tom was a good Husband, a good Father and Grandfather, and was extremely committed to his Church. I also found Tom to be a great motivator, super idea man, with lots of energy and relished the challenges.

We are in Naples and are unable to pay our respects in person, but we are thankful for the opportunity to convey our thoughts in the Guest Book. God's Blessings to all.

With Sympathy,
Don and Carol Menze
