DONALD DYER Obituary

DONALD L. DYER, 77, of Rome City, died on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, 12:30 a.m., at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, following an extended illness. He had resided near Rome City for two years, coming from Big Long Lake. He retired after 50 years as a brick mason with Local 4 Indiana/Kentucky. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, Avilla. Don was a proud member of the Honor Guard. He was a member of the SAL at the Rome City American Legion Post 381 and the Kendallville V.F.W. Post 2749 Men's Auxiliary. Born July 3, 1936, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of Elliott and Frances (Hoffelder) Dyer. Surviving are his companion, Carol Cory of Rome City; three sons, Timothy J. Dyer of Albion, Douglas L. (Teresa) Dyer of Big Long Lake and Joseph T. (Hope) Dyer of Big Long Lake; two grandsons, Troy M. Dyer and Matthew Dyer, both of Big Long Lake; two sisters, Maryann Quinn and Suzann (Steve) Armstrong, both of Fort Wayne; and a brother, Thomas Dyer of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Noll) Dyer; second wife, Betty Gerbers Dyer; a brother, John Dyer; and a brother-in-law, William Ray Quinn. Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to the Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family at www. youngfamilyfuneralhome.com

I am sorry I cannot make it to the funeral home. Don was one of my best friends and enjoyed many years of working with him. My sympathy to the family. Don was a good man.
