BETTY SCHUMM Obituary

BETTY M. SCHUMM, 94, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017, at the Van Wert Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 23, 1923, in Van Wert, a daughter of Leo H. and Elizabeth L. (Roes-ner) Ross. On Nov. 1, 1947, she married Milton M. Schumm who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2009. Mrs. Schumm was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, serving on many boards and committees. She served as church organist for Emmanuel Lutheran for 66 consecutive years, starting at the age of 13. Surviving are her two sons, David M. (Janet) Schumm of Bryan, and Dennis W. (Linda) Schumm of Van Wert; one sister, Joanne (Glen) Rager of Van Wert; four grandchildren, Katie (Read) McFaddin of Portland, Ore., Jonathan (Amy) Schumm of Sylvania, Lucas Schumm of Gahanna, Bryn Schumm of Columbus; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy L. Schumm; and two sisters, Christina (John) Harrington and Jeanne (Donald) Germann. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 705 S. Washington St., Van Wert, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Rev. Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Burial will follow service at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert. Memorials in memory of Betty Schumm may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 705 S. Washington St., Van Wert, Ohio 45891. Arrangements by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, 722 S. Washington St., Van Wert.
