Norman Dignard Obituary

ROCHESTER — Norman F. Dignard, Sr., 84, of 32 Crosswind Lane, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Rochester Manor after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Leominister, Mass., the son of the late Alexander and Arthemise (Mallett) Dignard. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Norman had resided in Rochester for the past 40 years and was employed as a painter. He was a member of the American Legion Post 7 and a lifelong member of the VFW of Sanford, Maine. He enjoyed dancing.

Members of his family include his wife of 20 years, Leona (Paquette) Dignard of Rochester; son, Norman F. Dignard Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Dunnellon, Fla.; stepchildren, Thomas Genest and his wife, Dawn, of Jacksonville, Fla., Philip C. Langlais Sr. and wife, Shirley, Pamela I. O'Brien and husband, Craig, all of Sanford, Maine, Cindy L. Houde and longtime companion, Merton Gerrish, Jr. of Sanford, Maine, Paula L. Gerrish and husband, Errol, of Springvale, Maine, Lisa J. Bedell and husband, William, of Shapleigh, Maine; his brothers, Edward Dignard and wife, Carol, of Santa Clarita, Calif., Francis Dignard and wife, Ruth, of Leominister, Mass.; sister-in-law- and brother-in law, Rosemarie and Wilbur Vachon of Shapleigh, Maine; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at the Rochester Manor, 40 Whitehall Road, Rochester N.H.

Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford, Maine, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rochester Manor Activity Fund, 21 Whitehall Road, Rochester NH 03867.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Rochester Manor as they were so wonderful and kind to Norman and his family.
