Mary Bandouveres Obituary

ROLLINSFORD ¿ Mary (Janetos) Bandouveres, 87, of Rollinsford, entered into eternal rest at her home surrounded by her loving family Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. Born in Rollinsford on Jan. 11, 1923, to the late Evangelos and Ellen (Wentworth) Janetos. She was the beloved wife of the late George Bandouveres with whom she spent 62 years of marriage before his passing in July 2008.

She was a graduate of Dover High School and a 1944 graduate of the University of New Hampshire majoring in Dietetics. After graduation, Mary worked at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass., as a dietitian. In 1949 she and George purchased Janetos Market in Dover (where Mary worked growing up) from her father Evangelos Janetos. In 1968 she and George later built the present Janetos Market at 77 Main Street, almost directly behind the original store location and ran the business for many years while also raising five children. In "semi-retirement," Mary and George turned over the reins to three of her children, Gary, Alan and Karen, and they wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla. Although operation of the store was handed over, she continued to work there every day until about a year ago.

Mary was a very special lady in all aspects of her life. She was a loving and supportive daughter, wife, mother and friend and dedicated much of her life to her family and serving the customers of Janetos. Mary took enjoyment from being involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew up and afterward.

She is survived by: her five children, Paul Bandouveres and wife Carolyn of Rollinsford, Evan Bandouveres and wife Mary of Wilbraham, Mass., Karen Weston of Dover, Gary Bandouveres and wife Janice of Rollinsford, and Alan Bandouveres and wife Patricia of Dover; and her siblings, George and Marjorie Janetos, Lewis and Eleanore Janetos, Anna Laws, Barbara and Donald Johansen, Paul and Robin Janetos and Andrew and Eleanor Janetos. Mary also left: 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mary's arms were always open and welcoming to all in need. She will always be kept with thoughts of love in our hearts and she will surely be missed but never forgotten. The family would like to thank all the caregivers that made Mary's last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible. With their help, Mary was able to remain at home spending quality time with her family and friends.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Avenue, Dover, NH. The Trisagion service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Locust Street, Dover, with burial following at New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford. Following burial, the family will welcome family and friends back at the Bandouveres home, 84 Rollins Road, for those wishing to continue to share in the celebration of her life.

Memorials in her name may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 93 Locust St., Dover, NH 03820; or Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Go to www.taskerfh.com to sign the online guest book.

Mom, I can't tell you how special you are to me. There is now a huge void in all of our lives but I will always remember your special saying. "People and life can take away most things but there is one thing that can't be taken away and that are our memories." I will charish them and love you forever. Play some golf with dad for me...ok?

First met Mary through my parents, Les and Mary Williams in Zephyr Hills Florida enjoyed her company immediately. She was most easy to talk to very kindly in her attitude we laughed often at her telling of old tales at the market. She surely was a lady from a bygone time. I have fond memories of Mary. Russ Williams
