William K. Henze

LEE - William K. Henze, of Lee, New Hampshire, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

Bill was, using his own words, a nifty guy. Born April 22, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, Bill was awarded a full scholarship to Yale University and graduated in the class of 1945W. He went directly into the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego. His career in chemical engineering began in Cleveland; eventually he joined the Badger Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company was acquired by Raytheon in 1968 and Bill retired from the company in 1985 as a patent holder and Vice President.

Bill is fondly remembered as an avid skier, determined racing sailor, and, after retirement, an enthusiastic wood worker. He was a long-time member of Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead and St. Botolph Club in Boston. He served on the town budget committee in Lee and raised funds for New Hampshire Public Television by organizing wine auctions. He generously created a scholarship fund for New Hampshire students to attend Yale University.

Bill is survived by his wife, Gael Grant; his children, William F. Henze II of Pine Plains, N.Y., Susan Twomey of San Diego, Calif., Thomas Henze of Brunswick, Maine, and Jessica Henze of Tewksbury, Mass.; stepchildren Susan Friedrich of Durham, N.H., Belinda Friedrich of Harvard, Mass., Scott Friedrich of Freehold, N.J., and by their eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
