Catherine Florence Smiledge

Eliot, Maine – Catherine Florence Smiledge, 93 formerly of Laurel Lane in Eliot, died on May 15, 2014 at Durgin Pines in Kittery.

Born in Calais, Maine on August 9,1920, she was a daughter of Ernest and Nina (Lasure) Leighton. She was raised in and attended local schools in Lynn, Mass., graduating from Lynn Classical High School in 1938.

Kay and her husband, Earle Lester Smiledge, made their home for many years in Newbury, Mass., where she worked at Triton Regional High School as a school lunch worker enjoying the students over the years.

In the early 1980's she and Earle made their home in Eliot where she was a very active member of the First Congregational Church of Eliot, UCC. She enjoyed bowling at the Bowl-O-Rama in Portsmouth. A talented crafter she enjoyed knitting, craft fairs and displaying her many winning ribbons. For many years she was active in line dancing.

She is survived by her loving family; daughter Nina and her husband Eugene Sauvan of East Kingston, NH, Gary Smiledge of Gonic, NH, Dana and his wife Beverly Smiledge of Byfield, MA, Brian Smiledge of Exeter, NH,and Mark Smiledge of Dover, NH, Dean Labdon and his wife Mary of Japan, Pamela Labdon Kosinski and her husband Dr. Anthony of San Rafael, Ca., Noah Smiledge, Exeter, NH, Dana Smiledge, Jr and his wife Mary, Scott Smiledge and his wife Gina ) great grandchildren Alisha Labdon Perusich, Dean Labdon, Jr., Anthony, Alex and Will Kosinski, Phelan Smiledge, Isabella Smiledge-Ferragamo ) and her loving sister June Nickerson and husband Walter of Rowley, Mass., and many neices.

Friends may visit with her family on Tuesday from 5-7pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11am in her church, the First Congregational Church UCC, 1361 State Road, Eliot, Maine.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to her Church or to the Alzheimer's Association of Maine. Care for the Smiledge family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
