Priscilla Roessler Obituary
Mrs. Priscilla Jean Miyat Roessler, 80, of Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, died Thursday, July 17, at her home.
She was the wife of William G. Roessler, whom she married June 6, 1945, in Frederick.
Born Jan. 2, 1923, in Medilia, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Goldys Miyat.
Mrs. Roessler attended grade school and high school in Greenwood, Ind., where her father was the Presbyterian minister.
She attended Hanover College, then transferred to the nursing program at Indiana University and became a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
She moved to Frederick after her marriage. She graduated with a bachelor of nursing degree in 1946. She worked and taught nursing at Frederick Memorial Hospital from 1945 to 1962. She became a school health nurse at Walkersville and Linganore high schools. She then received a master of nursing degree from the University of Maryland in 1972.
She was instrumental in beginning the nursing program at Frederick Community College in 1967 and taught maternal and child health nursing until her retirement in 1983, when she received the distinction of professor emeritus.
She was a member of Frederick Presbyterian Church, where she served as the church school superintendent and as a ruling elder.
Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, William D. Roessler and wife Ricki of Severna Park, James L. Roessler and wife Anne of Middletown, Donald Roessler and wife Lori of Bishopville, and Marcia Fisher and husband Tom of Ijamsville; 10 grandchildren, Wendy Reyes, Holly Roessler, Lisa Fox, Philip Roessler, Steve Roessler, Luke Fisher, Sara Fisher, Amy Fisher, Carly Roessler and Ross Roessler; two great-grandchildren, Calvin Reyes and Maggie Reyes; two sisters, Alexis Freese of Texas, and Nada Barnett of North Carolina; and one brother, James Miyat of Florida.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. Second St., with the Rev. Ginger G. Memmott officiating.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roessler Charitable Youth Fund, P.O. Box 739, Middletown, Md. 21769.
