LEO PAUL DeSTEFANIS

Leo DeStefanis was born on November 4, 1929. He passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the age of 80. He was raised in Bronx, NY and moved to Madera while in high school. He was married to Eva "Sandy" Fleming in 1949, until she passed away in 2004. Leo was a talented craftsman and was involved in construction all of his life. Being Italian, he ventured into the cultural flooring known as Terrazzo. In 1966, he established the Valley Terrazzo Company in Fresno. Over the years it became the only Terrazzo company between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Leo was also a pioneer in popularizing Epoxy Aggregate Flooring in California and the U.S. His gracious hospitality and love for cooking, his signature anchovy pizza, polenta and his New Years Bagna Cauda will be greatly missed by all that were close to him. Leo is survived by his son, Steve DeStefanis; grandson, Basie DeStefanis; brother, Bruno DeStefanis; granddaughter, Jazmen Fernon; and two great grandchildren.
