ELEANOR SCHERMERHORN Obituary

Our friend and much loved wife and sister, Ellie Schermerhorn, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2015, after a long treatment for breast cancer. Ellie was born in San Antonio, TX, on June 12, 1954, and moved to California with her husband, J. Scott Hill, in 1987. She and Scott made Ahwahnee, CA, their home in 2000. Ellie received degrees in both accounting and business computer systems in 1982, at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She received her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in 1984. She worked for Peat Marwick (now KPMG) as an auditor and then as a consultant for many years. Ellie loved the mountain community and was active in not-for-profit organizations. She was a founding member of the Oakhurst Democratic Club. Other organizations she enjoyed were the Sierra Historic Sites Association, Mountain Community Women, La Sierra Guild for Valley Children's Hospital, and the Sierra Foothills Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wellington Gomph Schermerhorn, and Mary Hume Schermerhorn; her brother, Stephen W. Schermerhorn; and sister, Caroline Gray Anz. She is survived by her husband, J. Scott Hill; sisters, Edith Owens Gibson and Mary Paulette Hawkins; brother, Robert A. Schermerhorn; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellie's honor may be made to breast cancer.org; or a charitable organization of your choice.

What a privilege and sheer, utter delight to have known you and your wit, your finely-honed instincts and judgment; one of those rare folks who instantly radiated appeal and garnered respect. But the true character of Ellie shone in the way in which respect, affection and admiration for you only grew with continued association and friendship; grew from month to month, from year to year. Ellie: a one-of-a-kind human being whom I miss so already. Rest well, Ellie -

Ellie, we did not know you well (our fault for not trying harder), but you were definitely the backbone of the Mountain Democrats and for that we are forever grateful to you and to Scott. Your work here will live on in others for many years to come. Peace
