Hoyt Hooks Obituary
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Village Chapel for Hoyt Eugene "Gene" Hooks, 81, Gadsden, who went home to be with his Lord on Oct. 21, 2009. Bro. Rodger Collins and Bro. Mike Hooks, son, will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hooks graduated from Etowah High School in 1946, where he played football. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Goodyear with 40 years of service. He was an active member of Walnut Park Baptist Church, was an avid Alabama football and NASCAR fan, a former member of Whirl-A-Ways and Emma Sansom Band bus driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mack and Johnnie Hooks; brothers, Max, Coot and Charles Hooks; and sister, Johnnie Ruth Hooks.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Walden Gamble Hooks; sons, Mike (Bettie Ann) Hooks, Barry Hooks, Pinson, and Ricky Hooks; stepchildren, Misty Gamble (Wayne Ballard), Robert (Dianne) Gamble, Donna (Royce) Graves and Cathy (Jimmy) Kilgro; grandchildren, Mike and Tracy Hooks, Scott and Laura Hooks, Tiffany Hooks, Ryan Hooks, Jonathan Hooks, Kevin and Christine Kilgro, Scott and Kelli Cornelius, Chris Chandler and Cory Chandler; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Connor, Christian and Makayla Hooks, Leah, Seth and baby Hooks, Lucas and Jacob Kilgro, Colton and Brodie Cornelius, Kurt Chandler and Alexis and Noah Chandler; sister, Linda Wilson; brother, Bud Hooks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hooks Sr. and grandsons Mike Hooks, Scott Hooks, Ryan Hooks, Jonathan Hooks, Kevin Kilgro and Scott Cornelius.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tuesday Morning Etowah Krystal group and members of Walnut Park Baptist Church.

Sincere sympathies to all the family are sent with a reminder of just how Gene touched many lives with his kindness, humor and especially his love of God. He will certainly be missed, but your assurance of God's promise of a heavenly home for him (and all who accept Him as Savior) is a comfort that He will sustain you in your grief. I appreciate all that he did for mother and daddy and am thankful for the opportunity to have him as a friend. My prayers are with you.

Ms. Barbara, Mike & Family members:
Our prayers are with you in the loss of Mr. Hooks. Mike, I did not know he was your father, I just didn't make the connection. Don and I are sorry for your loss and please give our love to Betty Ann. I only saw Mr. Hooks once a year as he came in the tax office, but he was one of those clients that you enjoyed serving and seeing each year. Ms. Barbara, we pray that the Lord will continue to give you strength and comfort in the days ahead in the loss of your loving companion.
