Ray Rains Obituary

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Mr. Ray Rains, 85, Rainbow City, who passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017. The Revs. Daniel Barkley and Jay Stewart will officiate. Cremation provided by Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery.
Ray graduated from Albertville High School in 1949. He served in the US Army ('56-'58) and the US Army Reserves ('58-'62). He spoke highly of his time in the military and enjoyed sharing about his travels to Europe. He retired from LTV Steel after 41 years of employment. He loved visits from his grandchildren and watching others enjoy his home on the lake.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gail Patricia Rains; parents, Bessie Elrod Rains Hawkins and Grady Eldridge Rains; and sister, Hazel Belle Rains.
He is survived by his son, Jeff (Leigh Ann) Rains; grandchildren, Hannah, Zach and Noah Rains; his niece, Judy (Sam) Finn; and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Special thanks to niece Pam Fox, Rachael Franks and Jill Dean for their help with his care. Additional thanks to the physicians, staff and administration of Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2055, Gadsden, AL 35903.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.
