ARTHUR BENTON Obituary
Micanopy - Arthur Benton, 78, of Micanopy, FL, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011. He was a graduate of Florida A & M University. He served as Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army. He retired as a research associate from the Entomology Department at the USDA. He was a very active member of the Alachua County Chapter of FAMU Alumni, Retired Federal Employees, Retired Educators Associates, Lily of the Valley #606 Masonic Lodge. He also volunteered with the Micanopy Historical Society Museum and the Mount Olive Cemetery Associates. His passion for service was most evident at Mt. Olive AME Church, where he served as Steward Pro Tem; Director of Stewardship and Finance, treasurer and class leader. Arthur Benton will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Benton; his children: Karen Copelin (Cecil) of McIntosh, FL, Robin Threats (Arthur) of Alpharetta, GA, Crystal Bowman (Matthew) of Evinston, FL; seven grandchildren; one sister, Ruby B. Lee of Apopka, FL; one brother, George Benton (Sarah) of Winston Salem, NC; and Gerald Mingo, his godson of New York, NY. A wake service will be held at SELLERS FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, May 12, 2011, between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be at Sellers Huneral Home on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 9:00am to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, 8216 SE 185th Ave, Evinston, FL on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 1 p.m.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. The entire Benton family is in my thoughts and prayers.
Mr. Benton was a great man, who modelled how we should love the Lord, our family, and the church. By observing him in my childhood and adult life, I learned many valuable lessons about being a person of integrity and consistently walking in the light. He will be missed deeply.

I know that God does things without our input. I also know that God responds without our being aware.It just took me by great surprise to hear that such a devoted friend was gone. I pray that God will sustain Mrs. Benton in her loss. I have great consolation in knowing that my friend is in the presence of an all powerful God. Our thougts will always be with the Benton Family.
