FREDERIK KLAASSEN Obituary
Frederik N. Klaassen was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands on April 18th, 1937, died peacefully on March 15th, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Klaassen served in the Royal Dutch Navy until 1964. He returned to Puerto Rico to marry his sweetheart and lived there for 18 yrs. In 1977 he relocated with his family to Gainesville where he retired as a draftsman/designer having worked at GE and Driltech for many years. His most beloved hobby was woodworking which led to his passion of carving birds and other beautiful items. He was an instructor for the Gator Whittler's Club at the Senior Rec Center.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Myrna Klaassen and he leaves behind his daughters, Jacqueline M. Craft (Kevin), Gretchen I. Klaassen, his son Frederik N. Klaassen (Kelly) and three grandchildren, Joshua, Josie and Jordyn.
Family will hold a visitation for friends and family at the Senior Rec. Center at 5701 NW 34th Blvd. in Gainesville, Fl on April 14th, 2018 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to ElderCare of Alachua County.

As a child Frits was in an orphan house in Wassenaar, my mother Elly Verhoev was there too, and we kept always contact with Frits with email and Skype conversations, and the wooden cross he made is still on the wall in our house. We appreciate the way he lived and will live forever in our minds

Frits was such a good friend to my father, and such a nice man to everyone he knew. I looked forward to hearing from him after we moved from Gainesville and will miss him. He carved a beautiful bird for me and it sits with the carvings my dad made.... I think of him fondly whenever I see it .... sending hugs and love to his family. Patti and Jeff Steinback

I had the great priviledge of taking care of Mr. Klaassen in my Urology Clinic for many years. I always enjoyed seeing and talking with him. He was a very fine man. My condolences to everyone in the family.

Mr.Klaassen was an incredibly special person, who had become very dear to me. I will miss his phone calls and conversations. The cross that he carved for me remains a cherished gift which I will always be grateful for. The world is a much darker place without his genuine love and concern.
