RICHARD HOUGHTON Obituary

HOUGHTON, RICHARD

"DICK"

Richard "Dick" Houghton was born in Plant City, Florida on September 13, 1942.

His passions included fishing, golf, Gator sports, and teaching Sunday school. Dick began working with his dad, a grocery store manager, at age 13. This would be his profession for the next 55 years, managing grocery stores. Dick met his wife Donna at a college dance in the Fall of 1963 while attending Michigan State University on an S&H Green Stamps scholarship. They were married 48 years. Though cancer would eventually take his life, it became a storm that brought them together each morning in prayer and thanksgiving.

He is survived by his wife Donna and their three children Mike Houghton, Lori Kvam, and Mark Houghton, as well as four grandchildren Bailey, Claire, Will, and Ellie.

A memorial service for Mr. Houghton will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Keystone United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Farmer and Dr. Craig Moore officiating. Committal services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery in Gainesville. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to Lake Area Ministries, P.O. Box 1345, Keystone Heights, FL 32656. Arrangements are under the care of JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 340 E. WALKER DR. KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, FL 32656. 352-473-3176. www.jonesgallagherfh.com

Donna & family, It's been so many years since I'd heard from you and I'd ask occasionally ask Valarie or Debra and they neither knew. It's sad to find out this way - but we KNOW where Dick is and it's certainly a better place. I lost Jim 5 1/2 years ago. No fun. I'll keep you all in my prayers. Love you, Marcia Hazen Martin

To the Houghton Family,

So sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Houghton was the first manager for Publix in Live Oak. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor. I was very to lucky to have been chosen to work with him. I'm sure he will be missed by many.
