Charles “Chuck” Richard Clausen Obituary

Mr. Charles "Chuck" Richard Clausen, age 75, of Flowery Branch, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015 at Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Gainesville. Dr. Bill Coates and the Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and beloved grandfather. As a young man, Chuck played football and wrestled in both high school and college (University of New Mexico). He had a double major of psychology and physical education, then earned his masters in psychology while coaching high school football.

Chuck coached college football at William & Mary and Ohio State. Then spent 15 years in the NFL at Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Diego. Chuck coached in four Rose Bowls and a Super Bowl. Chuck followed his successful football career with a successful career selling commercial real estate for 20 years. He loved his Rotary Club and his church, First Baptist Church of Gainesville. He served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School and actively participated in serving Christ through both his church and Rotary. More important than the titles and his success in football and business was his impact on individuals. He helped young men get scholarships to various colleges and junior colleges, mentored high school coaches, and taught young people about life. Chuck blessed others with his life's passion of teaching and sharing life experiences that went beyond coaching football.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betsy Anne Clausen; his children, Cari Clausen White (husband James V. White), Lisa Clausen Hill (husband Dwayne M. Hill) and Chad J. Clausen; six grandchildren, Courtney A. White, Zachary J.G. White, Kelsey C. White, Alexia E. Hill, Colbie C. Hill, and Delaney M. Hill; brother, Monte C. Clausen; and sister, Sally S. Corlett. He is predeceased by his parents, M.R. and Maryann Clausen; his brother, Christopher Clausen; and nephew, Clinton Clausen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Hall County, P.O. Box 691, Gainesville, GA 30503 or Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502, www.eagleranch.org.

Chuck Clausen was a compassionate & caring human being. My experience of Chuck was one who gave 100% regardless of what you could do for him. I never told him while he was alive -- but I had the greatest respect for his advice as a Rotarian. He practiced the 4-way test in business and I treasured our brief exchanges in meetings, lunch & as neighbors.

I miss the opportunity to talk "shop" as Chuck always gave it to me straight. Regretfully, time has passed & I failed to reciprocate his many kind gestures over the years.

You are missed "Coach."
