Joe Sullens Obituary

Mr. Joe Sullens, age 82, of Dahlonega died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Sullens was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was of the Baptist faith and served on the deacon board of Friendship Baptist Church for over 40 years. Joe was retired from the construction industry and was a licensed electrician and master carpenter. He was also a master brick mason and bricked several of the churches in Lumpkin County as well as other commercial buildings and residences.

Joe was the son of the late Vernon and Lula Peck Sullens and was also preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Hughes.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sammie Lane Sullens; daughters and sons-in-law, June and Reid Kendall and Brenda and James Branson of Dahlonega; brothers, William F. Sullens, Ray Sullens, and Odum Sullens of Dawsonville, Bobby Sullens of Florida, Billy Sullens of Gainesville, and Stanley Sullens of Macon; and sisters, Margaret Trammell of Dawsonville, Dorothy Lingerfelt of Dahlonega, Veronia Castleberry of Dawsonville, Geraldine McKinney, Pattie Hester and Betty Mason of Dahlonega. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Sullens are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

The Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Steve Baker and the Rev. Joey Gilbert will officiate.

Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday from 1-9 p.m., and again on Thursday until the service time.
