Sam Cloninger Obituary

GASTONIA - Samuel "Sam" David Cloninger, 73, formerly of Mount Holly, died Aug. 11, 2011, at home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Gaston County to the late Oscar and Lucille Wentz Cloninger.

Sam enjoyed fishing, watching deer and going gambling. The family wishes a special thank you to Gaston Hospice, Dr. Matulis and Dr. Meakin for their care of Sam.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home, Bessemer City.

Survivors include his sons, Jeff Cloninger and wife Barbara of Mount Holly, Terry Cloninger and wife Denise of Mount Holly; daughters, Amy Parker and husband Joey of Gastonia, Ashley Brooks and husband Byron of Mount Holly; brothers, Jack Cloninger of Cramerton, Junior Cloninger and wife Pansy of Gastonia; sisters, Marlene Ray and husband Jimmy of Garden City, SC, Brenda Ford of Belmont, Joyce Featherstone and husband Ernest of Greenville, SC, Louise Nolen and husband Larry of Denver; grandchildren, Mandy and Dillon Cloninger, Kenzie, Colby and Alex Parker, Taylor and Zach Brooks; his companion dog, Lily.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Adams Cloninger, sister, Mary Jane Young.
