Mary Watson Obituary

GASTONIA - Ms. Mary Katherine Woods Watson, 66, of 3624 Hamilton Drive, parted this life and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Alexandria Place nursing facility in Gastonia.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Woods Sr. and Jessie Mae McCluney Woods.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Landis Watson.

Mary was a 1964 graduate of Lincoln High School in Gaston County and was employed at Hanes Brands for 17 years.

Mary loved her family and being the best mother to her daughter and the best "nana," as she was affectionately called, to her granddaughter, who was very dear to her heart.

Above all, she loved the Lord. She was a lifelong member of Shady Grove Baptist, where she attended Sunday school regularly and was a lead vocalist in the adult choir.

She leaves to cherish her fondest memories her daughter, Sherry Watson; granddaughter, Amber Nixon, of Gastonia; three sisters, Jerlene Gill (Roland) and Sheila Davis (Jimmy), of Bessemer City, and Brenda Wright (Earl), of Filbert, S.C.; her brother, Robert Woods Jr. (Sonny Boy), of Morganton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at Shady Grove.

Burial will take place at Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery.
