Jean Peters, 87, passed away February 22, 2015 in Colorado Springs. She was born in Avon Park, Florida on December 10, 1927. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Murphy.

She is also survived by her cousin, Joe Duket (Ann), and aunt, Carolyn Fulghum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Peters, and her parents, J. Marcus Duket and Mary Evelyn Duket.

After graduating from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida Jean attended Emerson College in Boston. She was an accomplished dancer and entertained for the USO during World War II. She was Miss Tampa of 1947 and a popular fashion model appearing in numerous print ads for local department stores. She met her husband, Ralph, on a blind date and they married six months later on October 1, 1948. During their 63 year marriage Jean traveled around the world with Ralph promoting travel and tourism.

Jean was beautiful, vivacious, fun loving, elegant, classy, and always fashionable. She loved to entertain and always created a beautiful home wherever she and Ralph lived. A patron of the arts, Jean was a docent at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a member of the board of trustees of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. She also enjoyed gardening, loved animals and had a great sense of humor. A wonderful wife, mother and friend, she was much loved and will be greatly missed.

A reception in her honor will be held on Monday, March 9th from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Hill Room at the Garden of the Gods Club, 3320 Mesa Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
